The cams are supposed to be plated with chrome, however, these plates are scratched out and shows the metal. It might be difficult to define in this picture... A, Iron B, Brass C, Brass D, Iron E, Copper The steel of A has been repaired during 1939-41. The brass of B and C is late 1933 to late 1934. The steel of D has been repaired during WWII (1941-1945) The copper of E is 1935-38. The cam of the inside hinge square from 1936 and some of the round type flat bottoms from 1938 which I own are also copper. The full-original 4-barrel outside hinge is known as of 1936, I think the cam is made of copper. If you have a 1936-fully-original which is made of a material except copper, please let me know. Since the beginning of the ZIPPO company, the cam has been changed, starting with brass (1933-35), copper (1935-38), iron(1939-46), stainless (1947-51) and iron(1951-97). Be careful, here! There is no cam made out of iron in Fully original Outside Hinge ZIPPO. |
